Stupid question time - putting a CD onto a Microsoft Surface

DS is teaching himself Japanese, the workbook he's using comes with a CD and he'd like to get it onto his Microsoft Surface but it doesn't have a CD drive.

I'm assuming I can use an old laptop of mine that has a CD drive and then put the audio file on to a USB key for him but is it as straight forward as that or do I need some sort of software to convert it and would he need software to play it?

Appreciate any help

it maybe as simple as ripping the audio from the CD and windows media player does this for you. But it could be that the CD is more then just audio , if so then you would need to start to look at creating a virtual CD or something similar.
If you get stuck you could always buy a USB DVD player for around £12 from ebay.

The CD contained files as well as audio but all I had to do was drag it onto a USB key and from there onto the Surface. Worked a treat
