Staying on site - Parking?

Is it true that if you are staying on-site you receive free parking at the theme parks? Was planning on using disney transportation but would be an added bonus if could park for free at parks. I know the hotel parking is free until end of 2019 but no idea re theme parks.

When we stayed last year we drove to the parks the only bus I would get would would be for magic kingdom as the buses go to the front gate rather than going via boat or monorail

Yes, you show the CM your magic band and they will scan it to check you are onsite.

Just stayed without a car for the first time and not sure would do so again. Although it is more convenient that the buses stop outside the parks especially at Magic Kingdom there is still a bit of a walk. When returning the bus stops are not necessarily quite as close and we were waiting sometimes more than 20 minutes for a bus.
