P&O usually offer perks to cruise with them, such as free car parking or free coach travel if sailing from Southampton. They usually offer onboard credit. I wonder if these are going to be phased out to pay for the extra cost to them.

Not sure if P and O are the same as Cunard but on Cunard you can cancel the auto tips. I wonder if too many were doing the same on P and O?

You can cancel the auto tipping on P & O - Im onboard at the moment and have done as I prefer to tip personally. Im on a back to back cruise and the service on this one compared to the first one is phenomenal - and the first was good!
The waiting staff are superb this week and cannot do enough for us - we usually only see the maitre d on the first and last nights, but its like we are his best friends - he visits us every evening to check we are being looked after and asks if there is anything else we need - they have well and truly earned their tips already and we are not even half way through the cruise

In our experience the kids receive even better service than the adults anyway. The waiters were incredible looking after my daughters and my neices.

The general consensus on Cruise Critic is that because of the huge jump in the auto gratuities (doubled in about a year), a big portion of passengers were removing them anyway. So they decided to just do away with them. It should also help them attract new customers to cruising, as Brits hate tips and extra 'hidden' fees.

Its a win-win for us as we are cruising next August, so the price is locked in but we've saved on tips. However I think it would be very naive to think prices won't slowly creep up to cover it. Cruise pricing is so fluid that it would be impossible to tell. When this was announced a week or so ago, I checked the current pricing of our Fjords cruise and its gone up 130pp. Supply and demand, fluid pricing or a slow creep to pre emptively cover the removal of tips? Who can tell.

Every passenger pays tips on DCL.
