Bruge would be my choice.

I'd totally forgotten about Bruges, that's a good idea.
Maybe train to Paris for DLP, then Bruges , then Amsterdam. Fly home from Amsterdam. Does that sounds workable over 8-9 days..

That definitely sounds do-able. I've not been to Bruges myself but I'm desperate to go - my friend went earlier this year and said it was the best city she had ever visited. She it was so small you could easily navigate but yet there was still so much to see!

I really like a city that is walkable, so it sounds like a plan . Been to Amsterdam about 25 years, so I want to go again.

Yes I would say that sounds workable. We just had one night in Bruges (Saturday) and 2 ish days. We arrived at 10am on the Saturday and left at 3pm on the Sunday. We saw all we wanted to see in that time, although if we were beer drinkers we definitely could have wasted more time sampling all the beers on offer! I don't think you would need longer than 2 nights there. It really is lovely and totally walkable. Very busy at a weekend though!

Just beware that lots of places in Belgium still close on a Sunday. We did Bruige and did Brussels on our last day. It was mainly closed.
Brupark will be open. This is where the Automium and Mini Europe model village is. Mini Europe contains models of major landmarks in the founding EU countries.
