Car hire in Tennessee

Anyone able to offer any hints or tips for cheaper car hire in Tennessee? - picking up and dropping off in Nashville (BNA). We are after a standard size SUV, I would prefer to book with Alamo because I like choosing the car but its coming out £900+ which seems a lot, unless I'm missing a trick. Our dates are 25/7/19-07/08/19.

Any help or advice welcome

thanks

Sorry but we have always found hiring a car outside of Orlando ridiculously expensive. We end up paying 700-900 for 3 weeks car hire in the last few years. Sometimes booking through Virgin Holidays can be cheaper especially as you get an extra driver for no additional cost. Just booked through them for the Pacific Northwest this summer and got an ok deal for an SUVfor 3 weeks.

Looking back in 2017 we paid £440 for 7 days going from Dallas to Nashville . We had a Dodge Charger and upgraded the roadside assistance package. That was Alamo via rental cars.com

I would look at other providers .you can't always pick the car with Alamo. Depends on depot .when we have used city locations we haven't had a choice

Hi P.Sherman!

We just came back from Nashville (remember I bought the cheap flights because of you?! ). I used Expedia to book Alamo but we just went for the economy 4 door. Cost in Feb half term for 8 days was £160. Check topcashback too if you use that too. At the desk he told me we had a compact 2 door fiat 500! when I said I would never have booked a 2 door I was offered an $80 upgrade to be able to choose any car within the compact category. I declined and when we arrived at the lot there were no compact or economy cars there so the guy said we could take anything from the mid size :-) Car was brand new and amazing! Point of the story is don't get conned by the guy at the desk, I checked the paperwork and had booked a 4 door economy.

My pal recently took one in Nashville, he bought an annual insurance policy with carhireexcess.com (make sure you select the one with SLI and USA) and then just took the basic insurance with one from Enterprise I think (but try all the US car companies direct). It worked out a lot cheaper. I used this method at NYC the other year as that was a lot cheaper also. So worth checking.
