I'm sure someone more experienced on these areas will be along soon - but there is more than enough on the West Coast to fill a 2 week holiday! Unless there is a specific reason for visiting NY on this trip I would do the whole 2 weeks in California (or surrounding areas).

I wouldn’t advise doing both east and west coast on the same trip.

Hi would be inclined to stay west coast and do New York on another trip. Have a look at what else is available west coast, where will you fly to. For LA most will say 4/5 days max. For us we would suggest fly to San Fran 3/4 days and then either 2/3 days yosemite and then to Monterey and Santa Barbara and then LA for your Disney fix. Depending on your plans then you could miss yosemite and add San Diego

I love NYC but I think it wouldn't be the best idea to add it to a West Coast Trip. To get there from the West it's a near 6 hour flight and 3 hours ahead so you have to fly all night on a red eye getting into NYC at 7 or 8 am and then drop bags and stay out until you can check in to your hotel at 3pm. Alternatively you lose a whole day if you leave the West in the morning, you won't get into NYC until 8pm or after.

I’m flying to NYC staying one night before travelling onto Vegas/LA only reason is we’ve never been before and our flight included a stop at JFK anyway so we decided we couldn’t stop there and not see at least some of it!
Not sure if we will regret our decision but it is doable! |

We fitted in a visit to NY en-route to California a few years ago, and TBH, we all thought we really should have gone straight to California as there was so much to do.
The only advantage I would see in returning via NY would be the possibility of getting a daytime flight from NY to London. We took the daytime BA flight server all years ago, and we didn’t suffer with jet lag, having stayed overnight at a JFK airport hotel.

We did la, Hawaii and then home via nyc over three and a bit weeks.
It was just two nights in nyc but we loved it and it broke the journey home and the jet lag! |
