I remembered your recommendation for First Watch and we really enjoyed it! Thank you. Yes shopping was great. We’re bordering on might be needing another case if we buy any more… we’ll see!
We have only ever been for breakfast too and dinner has been on my list for ages. It’s an expensive meal but I’m hoping it’s worth it, even it’s a one and done. Thanks for reading along and commenting 👋 |

Day 5, part 2
Hello from Discovery Cove!
Last night we were eating in Ohana. I was in two minds about this reservation for a while before our trip as I’d heard some not so good reviews about it, but it was like an itch I had to scratch so we kept the reservation and went in with no expectations. We caught a Lyft from our resort over to the Polynesian and had a look in their shops and did some pin trading. We checked in at 6.30pm for our 6.50pm reservation and were sent a text almost immediately that our table was ready. We were off to a good start when we got given a table for 2 in the window so we had a lovely view of the castle. Cola products are included with your meal so I had a Diet Coke and DH had a sprite. We also asked to see the drinks menu - I ordered a Pinacolava and DH had a Blue Moon. Wow the pinacolava was very strong! It needed a good mixing up and was tasty, but I wasn’t prepared for the first sip! 😂 We were brought out the bread which had a lovely coconut flavour with the delicious honey butter. We were also brought the salad, which looked a little dry when it came out but was actually quite tasty with the citrus taste. The first skillet had pot stickers, noodles, chicken wings and veg on it. Everything was very tasty but it was only luke warm at best. We tried to catch our servers attention but to no avail so just decided to eat what we’d been given. I’d heard mixed reviews about the noodles, but I enjoyed them and thought they had a nice flavour. Next she brought out the chicken and asked if we wanted anything else. We asked for some hot noodles and pot stickers. The chicken had a really lovely flavour to it. I’d say it was thigh meat but there were no bones in it. But sadly again it was only just warm. Next up was the shrimp and steak (again only luke warm) and some very hot noodles and pot stickers. The steak was very tender but also chewy which I know is a bit of a contradiction but you wouldn’t eat too much at once. The food was very tasty, it had a lovely flavour but for the price you are paying you expect the food to be hot. Once we had finished we asked for a break before dessert and DH asked for a coffee. Once we were ready we were given our dessert (pineapple bread pudding with ice cream and caramel sauce). This was really good. The ice cream had a lovely vanilla flavour and the sauce was lovely too. The pudding had a thickness like traditional bread pudding. The waitress also brought us two pieces of rice Krispy treat on the side which we asked for a to go box for. Total bill including tip was $189 which was pretty steep considering only one of the dishes came hot. To say we could have had 2 meals at Texas Roadhouse for the price we were disappointed. Even the castle view didn’t make it worth while. Ohana is definitely a one and done. If you’re on the dining plan then maybe I would recommend it, but I don’t think it’s worth oop. We decided to catch the monorail around to the Contemporary resort to take a look in their shop. I picked up two cookies to take back with us.. will include once we eat them. We decided to call it a night since we had to be up early for Discovery Cove. We caught a Lyft back to our resort. Unfortunately I had terrible stomach ache for most of the evening. Not sure if it was the food or the volume of food, but I felt pretty awful until the early hours of the night. We decided once back at the room to cancel our reservation at 50’s prime time cafe. The starting price is very similar to Ohana at $60 each for the dining package and we don’t want to shall out almost $200 and come away disappointed again. We have kept our Grand Floridian Cafe reservation, but concluded we are probably off site eaters preferring the choice (and price!) of offside meals. Remaining dining credit - approx $395.20 Steps - 11,649 Thanks for reading! |

I would find it so frustrating being served that volume of luke warm food! A shame when you enjoyed your drink and the dessert (and had such a lovely view).
I always used to think we’d eat at Ohana one day but the more I hear, the more I think we won’t! Hope you have better food luck today.

Well that is a bit rubbish, I’m sorry you didn’t feel well either. 🩷 Sometimes you just have to do it so you know. Onwards and upwards for a great next meal. Xx

First Watch Breakfast looked good and you did well on the shopping again. Shame Ohana’s food was not that warm its more disappointing when you are paying such a premium for the experience. Hope you are feeling better today.

Oh dear re 'Ohanas. I went for the first time this year and always thought it was going to go one of two ways. Fortunately in my case, it was a hit, but the old inconsistency issue strikes again. That is a very big bill for lukewarm food.
