LA to SF on 395 via Yosemite?
Has anyone done all or part of this route? As part of a 2 part trip with LA, Disney, Universal etc and SF I’m looking at doing. 2-3 day trip via 395 to join the two locations and see some of Yosemite etc. 395 looks like an interesting way to do it although not entirely where would be a good place to stay overnight to break up the trip.

Not sure when you are going, but please bear in mind that the Tioga Pass out from Yosemite and onto the 395 may be closed regarding snow conditions until the Summer. I think the year when we went the pass didn't open until about early July.
We went from San Francisco to Yosemite. We stayed in cabins in Half Dome Village inside the park. They were very basic and for what they were expensive. They did allow you to stay on site and avoid having to drive into the park. The area was beautiful. We left via the Tioga Pass, which was also beautiful. We were heading down to San Diego, but if you were going to LA it would be a similar route. To break the route we spent a night in Lone Pine and then 2 nights in 29 Palms. The latter is near the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park, which I would recommend. We had originally planned to drive through Death Valley National Park, but skipped there to cut down on drive times. Edit Reverse the order for your planned route.

Hi we have done part of this and in reality a couple places to stay , we would probably suggest heading to lee vining but this would depend what else you would like to see on the route before this. Going into yosemite via the tioga pass is fantastic.

We'd be going in late August. Looking at Bishop as a possible place to stay as its about 4.5 hrs to LA (add at least an hour with kids and constant photo stops probably)

Erick Schatt’s bakery is a must if you are staying in Bishop.
