Waiting until August to book? Wwyd?

We used our placeholder to book this years cruise but we’re now looking to book another for next summer.

Are we better waiting and booking onboard in August?

Can we book earlier and get any discount applied retrospectively?

Not decided yet what we want to book, but it’ll be out of a Florida port in August 2020.

Sorry - no answers but following as I'm wondering this too... We have a cruise booked for October this year and have just booked a cruise for next Summer! I had heard prices tend to increase and there was a specific stateroom we had in mind but I am wondering if we could have got a better deal by waiting or if we can get a discount when on the cruise later in the year... We booked with TOAD - brilliant to deal with...

So from what Ive heard it really does depend on the cruise. Some people book and then see how it works out onboard by reshopping. That way if the price has gone up you still have the cruise at the cheaper price but the discount and obc might make it better value. I have never tried this though so really don't know the best option. I too have this dilemma coming up in may.

So there an option to reshop onboard then, would be great to hear people’s experiences of this as it seems it might benefit a few of us.

If it's DCL, book now then re-shop once onboard to see if any price rise between now and August is more/less than the 10% discount and onboard booking credit ($200 for 7 nights and longer, $100 otherwise)

If it's a common cruise (3 or 4 night on Dream or 7 night Fantasy), you may find it hasn't gone up too much and re-booking it onboard is worthwhile, but if it's a new itinerary or unusual one, the price will go up guaranteed. Our new cruise for 2020 (9 night Greek Isles) has gone up by over $1000 so far.

Bear in mind, that your onboard booking will be a brand new booking so if you want to keep the room you book now, you (or your TA) will need to do some shuffling around. The DCL reps may be able to help you with this if you are DIY booking.

If you've booked it DIY (direct), then you can call the DCL reps and they may be able to help you with cancelling the original and moving your new booking to the old cabin.

Confusing right?!
