Just an update. We had a Golden Forrest room. I used the electric socket for the standard light, to leave the other free for the kettle. It only worked when the lights were on.

There's usually a plug socket behind the bedside table. I take an extension lead and plug it in there

another tip is large power banks. I have a 16000mah one with 4 usb ports, it can be charged whilst simultaneously charging devices. I use a samsung S9 psu at the wall (this is a 9v and 5v psu and charges the brick quicker, the ipad psu gets very very warm if we do this!) This has the benefit that you can take the power brick with you for the day too.
