I had about 4 or 5 guys walk up to me last night while sat outside a bar in London near bank - all with a story, a simple - sorry mate, resulted in them walking away.

And again outside London Kings Cross, these beggars are just wanting cash for drugs,

As i had 30 mins to kill before my train, i just sat down in the sun people watching, i witnessed a lady buying something from Mc'Donald's, (the one to the right of the station) and giving it to a lad who was sat on the floor by the station doors. I watched him like a hawk, 5 mins later he jumps up and bins the food when the street cleaner bloke walked past.

The amount of people who were giving spare change was very positive however fueling an addiction in my opinion.

Ive only had it a handful of times in the states though, more so in Las Vegas but the odd time in Orlando.

We had it outside of Target last year, something about how they couldn’t afford their daughters school uniform.
Also noticed a small group of possibly homeless people wondering into the road and tapping on people’s windows when we were at the traffic lights

The main street in St Augustines is awful although they don't approach you. The street is just lined with them.

i was approached last year in a car park to the rear of Longhorns on Idrive. A women, really nicely dressed asking for money for a hotel room for her and her kids. I didnt have any in any case but i felt bad and i hate that these people do that. I felt bad for not giving her anything (till reality kicked in and i realised) but even then i still felt bad for the "what if"

I did consider telling the staff she was stalking the parking lot but didnt in the end i suspect they dont have much power over it.

I agree kings cross is terrible. I work in rail industry and have noticed it getting worse and they’re quite brazen.
Never experienced it in USA

We have experienced it once. A convoluted story about bus fare that didn’t make any sense.
That was at Publix near premium outlet.

This could be any one of us with circumstances going a different way. As long as people aren't doing anything bad or illegal then treat them with compassion and go on your way.

This isn't new either here or in the States.

It has been happening on every trip to the US for 10 years or more for us and begging (whether outside a shop, tapping on your car window whilst stationary in traffic or in some other way) in London has been around for decades.
