mushrooms - anyone grow their own?

just got these in the post...

anyone had a crack at growing your own mushrooms before and got any tips? i've had a couple of logs soaking in a bin for the last couple of days, and my plan is to drill holes in them this weekend, insert these mouldy dowels, cover with wax, then stick them at the bottom of the garden and see if i get any shiitake mushrooms at some point

i've also got some coco coir bricks, as i've been reading a bit about growing your own indoors... my plan is to get some spores from some by putting them over a shot glass of distilled water for a day or so, then injecting that into the prepped coir bricks and see if they colonise...
