We have stayed onsite twice and finally last year after much debate stayed in a villa in Florida for the first time.
I had read all about how much cheaper it would work out, think of the space, private pool etc, and can now say I don't ever see us doing a villa in Florida again. Once all costs were added up it worked out more expensive than our previous onsite stays. Yes we had more space, but I missed the togetherness of the time we would spend in the hotel room all getting ready to go to the parks or when we came back talking about our day. I felt very isolated in the villa as well, I felt if something happened to us no one would know for days as there would be no one missing us or coming into the villa like the housekeepers do in a hotel. This obviously isn't something that would concern you OP as you would have a large party, but it's something I hadn't thought about beforehand. Also another point to consider is the make up of your party, if there are teenagers and you are staying onsite it gives them much more freedom to travel round the parks themselves in a relatively "safe" environment. Just a few points to consider, I know some people love a villa holiday, and I have stayed in private villas before in Portugal, Cyprus etc and loved those holidays as the villa/pool was the main focus of our holiday, whereas in Florida the main focus of our holiday is the parks and we definitely prefer the onsite experience |

What about a split stay best of both worlds!

honestly... I would never go to Florida and stay in a hotel, or on-site... the freedom of having a villa and my own pool is at the top of the list for me...
With such a large group, perhaps two or three villas? and definitely at least two cars... very minimum... I imagine that with so many, staying in a villa will be a LOT cheaper... because you pay for the villa, not per person...
