Question about pet insurance

As per my other posts. My cat is at the vets. We are currently at 2,500 in vet Bill's.

My insurance is with petplan for 4,000 pounds per year and lifetime cover.
My insurance renews on the 27th. Does my cover begin again in the next year. So if I use all the 4,000 by the 27th, do I also get 4,000 cover for the next year as I have lifetime cover?

Hope that makes sense!

Just make sure you or your vet get that claim in before 27th to ensure it's done before renewal.

Given its so close to renewal your premiums may adjust or they may just wait until next renewal (might be worth checking with them so no nasty surprises).

On thing to be mindful of is when we had pet plan we had to pay the excess each year. So you'll probably have that coming out twice close together given your renewal date and claiming over two policy years.
Thank you! I will let them know today. I dont mind doing the admin fee and excess again. She will definitely in longer. So I will need next years limit aswell as this year.

I assume your vet are charging an admin fee to process the claim? Really annoys me when they do that considering they can get paid directly from the insurer
Yes the admin fee is £30 per claim. Our cover states £4000 per policy year and for ongoing treatment. Glad I have it tbh or bye bye house savings. Kinda glad I'm coming up to renewal aswell!

Phone your insurance companies claims line. To be honest, with the onset of illness being in the current period of cover (Risk) the claim should lie with this years policy.

Avoid More Than or any other RSA-backed insurer. We had to take them to the ombudsman to get what our dog needed, bunch of charlatans.

We're now with Bought by Many, not claimed but their reviews are good. They do a policy with no premium increases if you commence when your pet is under 2 - not looked at small print, as our pets are all 3+, but might be worth a look?

Get insurance in place ASAP if you don't have any cover as they don't tend to cover anything in the first 14 days. If you've got free cover, you'll want to start your own insurance 14 days before that finishes so you've got continuity of cover.

They will apportion the claim to each policy year irrespective of when the claim was actually made, it's when the cost of the treatment was incurred.

If you have lifetime cover the £4k is per year, and refreshes on renewal date. A lot of people get caught out by this and buy the cheaper cover which doesn't renew each year. You will have to pay the excess again, though.

Thanks! Yes they have confirmed this. I will pay the excess again but that's fine. She's in hospital to atleast Tuesday now. So some treatment will be in the next policy year. Plus she will be in pain management and a feeding tube for a while yet.

I'm glad that I got the right kind of insurnace as this would have been a nightmare!

Sadly not! She is currently in surgery for a feeding tube as we speak. I took her to a specialist today and he thinks she has Feline Orofacial Pain Syndrome (FOPS). And that's why she has the pain. It's a genetic condition but he is looking at her teeth again when he does the feeding tube. We are hoping that finding a good pain management will help til it passes. Apparantly it's rare but common in pure breeds and she is a Bengal.

So she is staying at the hospital til middle of next week. I'm trying to tell myself that she is in the best place! But I miss her like crazy!
