Oh shame it can only be used in the day. Never mind, will still be nice to walk to DS on a non-park day. I'm also guessing it would be quite a trek to get to the boat to go to DS? Don't mind walking though and want to take the boat across one night.
I'm still waiting for my travel agent to inform me there's refurbishments happening and pool/snack bar closure. When I asked at beginning February I was told definitely nothing like that going on! Thanks for your recommendations and advice Yorkshire. |

Near HH is a DVC only room category so you would be very very lucky to get this as those rooms have to be supplied to the DVC guests who have booked them.
You can hop on any bus (pretty constant) to take you back down the resort. You'd be good asking for the first few buildings in Millers Road, that is about closest to HH without being in the near HH DVC category. If you are with DTC booking, call them up and have it put on the reservation. If it's a different agent you could try calling them, or alternatively calling Disney hotels in USA direct (it's a central number, sorry I don't know it but Google should find it, I only dealt with DVC or DTC before). You can do it as soon as you book. |

The main pool was refurbed last year. They were doing Turtle Pond I think earlier in this year. If you go on David's (DVCrequest.com) he lists all the refurb notices at DVC resorts so check that out.
The boat is near HH. From the very back of the resort it would take about 10-15 mins to walk there at a brisk pace, but you can just jump on any bus (near constant).

This post is an interesting read, it is our first stay on site and at OKW in November and I am worried about the location as my dad struggles with arthritis. We have booked a 2 bed villa but I am not sure where is best to be.

I had a look for you. Looks to be a good reason to avoid Turtle Pond for now if going April onwards, looks like quite a substantial pool and snack bar refurb I wonder what they are doing. A 3 month refurb is not the usual spruce up:
"The Turtle Pond Pool, Turtle Shack Snack Bar and Flying Fish Gameroom will be under refurbishment and unavailable beginning April 2018 and continuing into July 2018. The Sandcastle Pool, featuring a waterslide, kiddie pool and a variety of dining and recreation locations, will be available. During this time, it is possible that guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00am." Edited at 02:19 PM. |

There's currently some building work at hospitality house. Apparently they are doing construction at the community hall , they've walled some of it off, and reports are of a new building adjacent. Pure speculation but some are suggesting they're maybe building an internal quick serve (the biggest complaint about OKW I see). Pure speculation though because when asked, CMs have refused to say.

YorkshireT an internal qs would be awesome, definitely the main failing of OKW
I was also kind of hoping the long refurb at turtle pond road might result in longer opening hours at the turtle shack but it doesn’t look that way

Hi all, this thread hasn't been posted on since march 18 but thought I would add to it …
We are due out to OKW in May and can't say we know much about the resort. Staying for a week, DVC. Are the refurbs all complete now? Have they made a difference to where people request etc? We will have a car for the week so the need to be close to the bus stops isn't an issue but we will have an 8yr old and 18 month old, any tips welcome. Thanks
