We're certainly erring towards going up the US27, as it looks like a decent option early on a Sunday morning, as we are staying in Weston FL for the first night to save travelling overly tired...
Depending how this goes, we'll probably do the same on the way back on the Saturday morning, taking an easy drive down, and finding somewhere decent for a pre-flight lunch on the way somewhere... Need to be back at the airport around 2pm, so leaving at around 8.30 sounds sensible, with a few stops on the way.

We have tried several routes over the year and the 27 is the easiest of the routes and now our main choice. Going back to the airport is definitely easy and we usually stop somewhere for meal or snack depending on what time we are headed to either the port or airport.
