HI, Its not strange. The airport have been changing how you drop off and pick up. They now charge from drop off. You used to be able to pull up to the dropoff and pick people up if they were waiting. But I guess not your option is only to use the T1 arrival car park, not sure of the current charge. The alternative is to get her to make her way over to the station as they have a dropoff/pick up zone (not been in a while but think it still exists).

T1 ,is dead simple,it’s an open air car park, just literally behind the bp garage, turn immediate left past it and you are at barrier for arrival, press a button, get a coin, note the time, then on exit place coin in one of machines,it wil then tell you how much, though it ain’t cheap, around £4-00 for first 30 mins, then it really jumps up to around £6 or£8, theft I know,so just follow signs for T1 arrivals, jobs a belter, other than car park fee, bondy.

Just follow the signs for T1 arrivals, they direct you to the multistory.
Then prepare to be robbed!
Manchester Airport Parking Charges

T1 Short Stay Multi-storey 30 mins £3.50, 1 hour £6, 2 hours £9.50,
4 hours £18,

I suggest if you are travelling far to park somewhere a few miles from the airport and get her to phone you!

Currently there are still no charges for picking up outside arrivals in T1. I was there Friday night and the barriers are still not operational. Not sure when they'll start. You only have limited time but if you time it right (park up 5 mins away and get her to call when she has picked up her cases), tell her to go upstairs to arrivals (past Boots and up in the lift) and come outside. You go up the ramp at T1 and you'll see about 12 pull in bays right outside arrivals.
