Adding a condition to insurance

Well after getting another bout of sciatica over the last few days I decided it would be best to inform the holiday insurance company
After going through various questions she said there was an extra £76 to pay.
I asked how much would I get back if I cancelled. £55 in total.
So I cancelled the policy and went online and took out a new annual policy for a couple including my sciatica for £75 less 20% via topcashback.
The policy has the same cover as the previous one.

So I guess if you need to add a condition to your holiday insurance don't automatically pay the premium they tell you. Shop around

I don't understand why they all seem to be happy to lose a customer. It seems the norm now for all insurers to let you go elsewhere for the sake of a small difference in premium.

Zurich were the one who wanted to increase the policy payment and coverwise the new policy

The insurance companies probably make plenty off the people who renew without checking so that they can afford to lose a few of the more savvy ones.

I'm with LV and when I phoned to let them know my daughter had antibiotics for a throat infection they said they don't need to be told about any new conditions and no extra to pay as long as the doctor confirms we are fit to fly. They were also one of the few companies who were willing to insure my daughter as she went to hospital overnight last year with tummy pains (suspected appendicitis), all blood tests and scans were clear and she was discharged with a diagnosis of 'non specific pain', apparently very common. LV were happy to insure as long as no follow up/tests/medication etc were in place, whereas others wouldn't insure her because there was no diagnosis, that seems really reasonable as our last insurers added £27 to our premium as my son broke his arm, even though it happened 4 months before we were due to fly and he was out of his cast and fine by then. Strange how different companies work.
