Price advice

Hi all.

Our trip next May/June is a little unprecedented so I'm looking for some info/advice regarding this price.

There are 2 adults, 3 children (13yo, 10yo & 7yo).

20th May flying GLA>LHR>MIA
Chevrolet Suburban (or similar) for 41 days
2 nights at Rosen Inn Int Drive
1 night a Hilton Miami Downtown
30th June MIA>LHR>GLA

Both long haul legs are with AA so no seat reservation fees.

£4766

TIA for any advice/info.

xx

ETA: the price is a create your own package with BA.

I only travel in the summer holidays but we come for a longer trip like yours (36 nights) and I know that car hire is working out really expensive especially for a big car like that. We did the indirect with BA Man to Mia and added in 7 nights at the Portofino Bay (Club Level) which gave us a good price - 2 adults & 2 children plus one infant was £3300. Have you tried playing around with other hotel options for your middle section or are you doing a villa?

We've got onsite from 22nd May to 5th June then a villa from 5th June to 29th June.

The hotels I've taken on the BA site are the cheapest.

Without the hotels the price is £4362.

Surely the hotels don’t cost that much of a difference if you paid for them outside of the package?

I’ve just checked the prices elsewhere and only slightly cheaper than you’d get from the package.

Also check your home insurance as some don't provide cover if left empty for 30+ days.

Also travel insurance can be a pain as they have a maximum number of days. I know we’re just under the maximum on ours.

Would work out at £4560 ish taking the 2 cheapest hotels on booking.com.

Gah, I hate this part of planning. The whole to book or not to book 😂😂😂

I know I feel your pain. Work out each section individually and your max comfortable figure for each and then see how it falls. The car hire alone for a vehicle that size was coming in at around £2000 for me when I was trying to book for this year. However I missed the early booking deals as left it until we had the money saved.

My niece is moving in for half of the time to look after the dogs so they don't have to be in the kennels for that long, but it was something I hadn't thought of.

We have an annual policy with the bank, H called them when we started discussing the idea of an extended trip and they quoted £99 for the 5 of us for the same cover we have (including all the pre-exsisiting conditions).

Indirect flights out of school hols should be less than £500 return. Have a hunt around for car hire, I’m sure someone says on another thread that there are great deals around, have a look on car hire forum. Then you’ll know if it’s a good deal!
