I think a kitchen appliance is a nice present for somebody that likes cooking or baking. I wouldn't be pleased with a set of pans, a mop or any kind of kitchen basic as a gift, but I would be very happy with a new gadget. So would DH.

But if he doesn't want it as a present, then I think you should just get it for the house.

My previous Xmas presents have included a garden shed, an oven, a chest freezer, a fridge freezer, a microwave and this year my eldest daughter has bought me a kettle. They're all gifts I have asked for though.

I would agree - an expensive mop 😂 but I can see the comparison.

Something like that OH and I would normally get in a sale, but never as a present.

If I really, really wanted that then it would be acceptable as a Christmas present.

When you're buying what you want throughout the year by the time Christmas comes it's a struggle to think of things.

My youngest DD asked for a carpet shampooer one year for her present

Maybe not quite the same as it's way more expensive than a mop, but it's more like something we'd buy for ourselves but not call it a Christmas present to either of us. I wanted a Ninja blender and my Mum had got us that, but that's different being from my Mum.

If its any help the special edition red one is £150 on ninja website directly just now. Also go via Topcashback and get 11.55% cashback and its a pretty good deal. We just got ours on Saturday and its really good. have made burgers, steaks and even pigs in blankets so far and we really love it.

Perhaps the red colour will make it feel more Christmassy :-)

I see all sides on this —-the older I get the more I appreciate practical, useful presents rather than novelty ones or well meaning ones that miss the mark (alcohol, perfume that isn’t my taste, toiletries that aren’t the brand I use, jewellery that I wouldn’t have chosen as a preference etc) ...

But this is a house gift and one that you both reap the benefits of ... so why not get this between you as a treat and reduce the amount you spend on individual things?
DH and I have just spent over £1000 on huge digital picture frames for the living room ... so we are just spending £100 each on personal gifts to each other.

That said, one year DH bought me a bright red KitchenAid and I love it!
