I brought and downloaded software called Aimersoft. It cost about £45 for a lifetime licence. It is so easy to use if you have a laptop or pc. You load the DVD onto your laptop via the software and it changed the format got the iPad. Once complete, connect the iPad to iTunes and sync.
It means that I can change the movies my son watches on the iPad without having to buy them via iTunes. |

Not sure of the legalities of production dvds but if you have the copyright or personal dvds you can use software such as ripit to rip a dvd and compress it into mp4 and place it in your itunes folder where you can then transfer it to iPad.

If you have sky movies you can use sky go extra to download loads of films to your ipad over wifi at home before you go.
Loads of disney films on there to choose from. It is a doddle to use. |

I use a free MP4 Converter (from Daniusoft, I think). Or you can use Handbrake as per those DIBB instructions mentioned by shelly.
You can also download BBC programmes onto your iPad for offline viewing using the BBC iPlayer app. There are also apps that allow you to download YouTube videos to your iPad in order to watch them offline later.
