Unless you upgraded your DDP when you booked then staying at a value resort would’ve only given you 1 quick service meal a day anyway. So having a discount doesn’t sound too bad, well not as bad as it could’ve been.

I think you need to phone and do what someone has suggested ,speak to a manager and get them to listen to the call and see if you were told you would lose the dining plan. If you weren't, they need to fix that. And I would do it first thing tomorrow.

Can’t really see why Virgin can’t admit to there mistake and add the dinning plan back on for you as you not adding more guests just adding an extra room so you got more room.
Both Disney and Virgin would be happy that your willing to spend an extra let’s say £4000 on top of the original price.
I would ask for a recording of the original phone call as if it wasn’t pointed out to you about losing the DDP then that’s wrong on Virgin and they should foot the bill for the paid version of the DDP if the free one can’t be added back on.

I thought an extra room always had to be done as a seperate booking? So there would have been no need to cancel the original room.

That’s my understanding too and certainly the case with Disney but if it’s a package with flights with VH it might be different.
