I use Barking Mad (probably not the same branch as you) but I wouldn't send my dog anywhere else. I get regular updates on how he is including pictures, the host gives him the same boundaries we do at home, he is the only dog there (he is terrified of other dogs) and he goes to the same host every time who describes Fudge as her best friend. I honestly think in this case you get what you pay for, and I am happy to pay for peace of mind. It is only a few pounds a day more than our local kennels too!

A colleague of mine runs a dog sitting business, our little fella goes to stay and loves with her dogs. They live in the woods so has the best walks and freshly caught meats, so much fun he gets depressed when he comes home. And a bargain at £13 per 24hrs, that’s not even mates rates, but her standard fees.

We pay £18 per night to a dog sitter, who looks after our dog and a few others, in her home. He gets two good walks a day, lots of play with the other boarders and much attention from the sitter. We get updates, photos and videos, and feel that he's well looked after. I found our sitter on mydogbuddy.com, though she now has her own insurance so we book directly with her.

Hmmmm I think my DS & DIL need to read this thread as we have their dog every day from 8am to 6.30pm and we collect and take home, plus board when they go away all for free. Don't get me started on free child care for grand children.

Our two Labs (sadly no longer with us ) went to home boarders in 2014 and we paid £35 per day for both. The boarders were a husband and wife team and would exercise the dogs as you would - in our case back then a good couple of hours per day - so all in all a good deal and they had their own room and full run of the house and a garden much bigger than ours.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.
Bit of a variety in prices but think I would be happier with about £35-40 for both a night rather than my first quote of £52! I have contacted a couple of other places and awaiting replies so fingers crossed.

We pay our lovely sitter £20 a night to have our dog in her home.
Is the place you mentioned an agency? If so, you are probably paying more because the agency want their cut. If you are on Facebook then it might be worth joining a local page for the area you live in and asking people who they recommend. There are several dog sitters in my town that don’t even need to advertise, they just get bookings through ‘word of mouth’ |
