Alamo / Discount Florida Car Hire

Hi

I’m looking at booking with Alamo via DFCH for September 2021.

I just watched the check that the return time actually makes a difference? We land at 2pm and leave at 8pm so I don’t want to have to return the car back to MCO at say 3pm on our return date because we picked it up at 3pm on the way in (if that makes sense).

Otherwise booking the later flight has worked against us and I’ll have to hope VH will let us change it without a fee.

Cheers

Sorry but do you mean you want to change your return flight with VH to the earlier one? I've never booked with VH so can't comment but Alamo through Andy allows you 29 minutes grace if you're late returning the car. Then they charge an hourly rate for a couple of hours then a full day rate.

Looks like you may pick up around 3pm if plane on time and immigration quiet and you need to return by 5pm (3 hours before flight to be safe).

As Colin suggests you should drop Andy a note through his web site. Might be cheaper adding a day's hire than paying VH what may be an exorbitant admin fee.

PS

Make sure you do on-line check in with Alamo and go straight to the garage A or B and pick your own car.

You could book car hire through Virgin Holidays.

Their car hire T&C's state that with them, Alamo give you a free 2hr grace period.

This would cover the gap between pick up and return.

Whatever time you collect the vehicle at, is the time you'd need to return it by, irrespective of the times you put on the booking. Theres a 29 minute grace period before they charge you an hourly rate for the first 2 hours. After 2 hours, they'd charge a daily rate.

Thanks for the replies.

So could I book an extra day and just bring it back 20 hours early?

Edit - It looks like it’s about £35 more on the car rental.

Perfect, thank you. I’ll try my luck with Virgin Holidays today and if I get nowhere, that seems the easiest (and probably cheapest) option.

All this for a few more hours in the parks to kill the last day boredom!

Obviously can't improve on Andy's answer.

But just to add that the time of collection on your booking is fairly irrelevant. It's the time that you drive out through the barrier and have the bar code scanned on your return that counts.

If you're only doing the full to full fuel option with Andy can I recommend adding fuel service at the barrier. From experience I know that Alamo don't rip you off with gas prices if you choose to add at the barrier.
