Kindle or tablet?
DS wants a kindle for his birthday but is it the best option, I have the touch but for a few more pounds he could get the 8gb Google tablet. Is it worth the extra for the tablet also how much will the Kindle fire be when it goes on sale? He does want it for reading mainly but would get use from the other features on a tablet. Also does anyone have a Kobo which seems cheaper not sure if it is not so good

I have the Google Nexus and I love it. I have downloaded the kindle app, so can get books from there or the Play store, as well as using the internet, email, Facebook etc. Would definitely recommend :-)

The thing about a kindle is that it uses a technology called e ink; it is very book like to read and only consumes battery power when turning the page so they have incredible battery life.
If they want a kindle it may be for these reasons so may be best to check with them first. Dan |

I have a kindle, and the kindle app on my iphone. I don't mind reading on the iphone but the screen on the kindle is much much easier on the eye. If it's primarily for reading then I would get the kindle. You can get the basic one for £89, and I don't think there is any need for the touch one.

If it's an ereader your DS wants then a kindle is your best option! The e-ink is easy on the eye, unlike a backlit tablet which could cause discomfort if reading for long periods of time! Not being backlit also means the kindle is perfect for reading outside or under bright lights as it doesn't give off any glare! And the battery can last for months without needing recharging! I've had my kindle for almost 2 years and can honestly say it's the best purchase i've ever made!

For reading, nothing beats a Kindle.
I have an iPhone, tablet and computer , all of which have the Kindle app. The real Kindle is by far the best for reading. It is lighter, easier to hold, more portable, more comfortable to read, battery lasts longer, just better all round for reading. I love my tablet, but not for reading books.

I have a kindle and the Google Nexus , tbh unless he's going to read loads i'd go for the Nexus tablet at it does so much more and i've read books on it and whilst i prefer the kindle, the Nexus is fine for reading in.
