We also stayed at Maswik Lodge on our visit to the GC we loved it there. We didn’t bother with the bus we drove to the car park to watch the sunrise actually did it twice it’s well worth getting up for the changing colours are spectacular.

You should be ok for weather in August. We went in April and it was very cold - we went out on the bus route to see the sunset but it was so cold we didn't stay long. We were all keen to wake up for sunset at 6am, but it was snowing and foggy so no sun to be seen!

We just got back and did sunset at Pima point. Some cloud came over so a little disappointing but a great location. Mohave point was also great. Both were on Hermits rest road, got shuttle out and then they pick up at both these points on the way back. Much less crowded than around the village. I will be writing a TR but we arrived via east entrance about 8am and first view was from Desert View. This was phenomenal! I think I would have been disappointed if my first view had been the very crowded visitor centre or village.
Are you going to Bryce and Zion? I actually enjoyed Bryce the best. Awesome views and great that you can easily get down amongst the Hoodoos. Also very dark skies and saw the milky way for the first time and got some great photos. Have fun |
