Alaska, Trains and Boats and Planes Day 9 Train to Denali
The Cast;
Me... Beryl (grumpys wife) DH... Pete (love of my life, honest) DSIL...Diane (nuttychick) DB... Dave 31st May 2008 Left Whittier by train at 8a.m this morning in RAIN! This was the first we had seen the whole holiday despite the locals everywhere we stopped telling us about the unbelievable rainfalls they have, something like 320 days of the year in Ketchikan alone! By the time we had left the outskirts of Whittier the rain had stopped. We had 10 hours to pass on the train. We were sitting in the glass domed roof with excellent views. Me and Pete Diane and Dave Everyone was scouring the the sides of the track for wildlife, preferably bears! Well one man "said" he saw a mum and her cubs. We didn't, although we did see 2 moose. One of the guides on the train passed around some photo's of her own and I took a photo of this one as it made me laugh. God knows what the bear at the bottom was looking for! It was a very long journey, just over the time it takes us Dibbers to get to our beloved Disney but it seemed to go a lot quicker than that horrible night flight home from Orlando. We were all very stiff when we got off the train. Were met by a very bubbly coach driver called Juney, who kept us awake and very entertained on our way to our hotel. On arriving at the hotel we went straight to reception to see if we could book a tour for tomorrow to the "Husky Homestead". We managed to get booked and I will tell you more about that in my next report. We had a very nice dinner in the hotel restaurant and then fell into bed. |
