Anaheim/Universal/Santa Monica Hotel Suggestions

We are off to the West Coast in August and just finalising our last couple of hotels.

We are doing a day at Universal and probably 4 or 5 days in the Disney parks and relaxation at the hotel.

Can anyone suggest some good, reasonably priced hotels in Anaheim and the Universal areas please.

Would it be better/cheaper to stay somewhere like Santa Monica when we are visiting Universal?

Thanks advance.

We've stayed twice at the Sheraton Park in Anaheim, a short walk to Disney and we got a good deal with Virgin Holidays for it (hotel only) which included free parking and resort credit which paid for our breakfasts in their diner.

If you're just doing a day at Universal and nothing else, I'd either stay close by or drive from Anaheim, Santa Monica's nice but a reasonable drive from Universal. Last tone we stayed in Anaheim the whole time as it was so much cheaper

We have stayed once at Disneys Grand Californian, which is nice, but pricey, though very good location. Otherwise I would suggest the Sheraton Garden Grive, which is 5 mins from Disneyland, very nice, clean, new, and reasonable - around $100 a night usually. Highly recommend it!
