Completely agree, instructing the police not to allow supporters and food to be allowed into the mining communities too - inhumane. Also, as mentioned orchestrating the cover up into 96 unlawful deaths including children.

Very difficult choice.

I know she's not on the thread poll but maybe Priti Patel. Not necessarily the most unifying but will stand up to Europe.

For a more moderate, unifying long-term leader in a post Brexit world then maybe someone like Rory Stewart.

Just want someone to come in and sort the mess out. Get rid of the deadwood and make us proud to live in this country and be British. Stand up to the EU and show them we are not there to be walked over.

My point was about Maggie and how she handled the EU.

I have two brothers, at the time one was a miner the other a police officer and they faced each other on the picket line...one had no income coming in whilst the other was earning loads from overtime. I knew all about the anger towards Thatcher and my one brother still hates her to this day.

We all discussed the strike at great length and even my brother who was the miner admitted that they were over manned, he said 5 people were doing the job that 3 possibly 2 could have done. However Scargill wanted to take Thatcher on and that was his mistake, calling that strike without a national vote not only dissected the support within the NUM but alienated him from the other trade unions and didn't get their support. Scargill is as much to blame for what happened to the coal industry as Thatcher did.

I don't know whether the coal industry was sustainable long term in the UK but at that time only a fool or egotist would purposely go up against the government of the time rather than work with them to at least keep the industry going to give it a chance.

I actually think the only real way to get out of this mess is to have a temporary PM who is a Brexiteer and then once out bring in a PM who is capable of unifying the country... I know it won't happen but the skills needed for these tasks are so different I'm not sure there is one person capable of achieving both

I agree, but Johnson is guilty of treating this like a game. He’s the one who wrote two different newspaper articles taking entirely opposite stances on whether to leave or remain in 2016.

He backed leave because he decided it would position him better for Conservative leadership, not because it’s what he truly believed at the time
