Where to stay for Manchester University visit?

Premier Inn at Handforth is good.

Premier inn Denton, Stockport. Travelodge Ashton under lyne. Village hotels Ashton and Hyde. All very easy to get into Manchester from some without having to drive. I live next to village Hyde and its 15 mins on train to Manchester.

Our son is at Manchester Uni and just finished his 1st year.
If your looking at halls, they are mostly in the Fallowfield area. The university have a hotel on the halls area called Chancellors which we’ve stayed at.

The main teaching campus is down Oxford Road, which is about 15/20 mins away.

It worked well staying at Chancellors, where we could leave the car, then do the halls tour. We then took the student bus to the teaching area.

Parking is nearly non existent in the uni areas.

We have stayed at other hotels but road works in the area since September have meant a 15/20 min journey from the motorway/bypass have taken 1hr. Not sure if it has improved since the end of April but can update you on Saturday when we pick DS up.

I’d be looking south or east of Manchester rather than west. I live a few minutes drive from
the Premier Inn at Haydock and the traffic in this area is dreadful in the mornings.

I work in the centre of Manchester and my advice would be not to try to drive in. Parking is expensive and the traffic is dreadful. There are roadworks on the M602 / Regent Rd / Mancunian Way and unfortunately, it's having a massive impact on all routes into the City because people are looking for alternative routes.

There is a Holiday Inn express right by Stockport train station. It's only been open for a couple of years so it's still all nice and smart. The train from Stockport to Manchester takes less than 10 mins and there is a reasonably regular service, there are also regular buses through to the City Centre.

You can jump on a tram from Piccadilly station to St Peters Square (at no cost) and it's either a short walk or bus then to the Oxford Road buildings. There's plenty of cabs at the station too if you prefer. You could then use the student bus service to go out to the accommodation at Alexandra Park but there is also accommodation further up Oxford Road too.
