We love California especially san diego. It really depends on what you want to do and see and how much travelling you want to do. Our favourite family day is going to the San Diego Padres baseball at Sunday lunchtime, where we have hot dogs and typical American stuff and it is fantastic.
San Deigo will definately be on our itinerary as DH has always wanted to visit. Thanks for your recommendations it's a great help.

Yes I have always wanted to visit SD as you say. There does seem so much to do in California I'd better get the overdraft extended!

Thanks for your input everyone.

Overdraft?! I think we'll need an additional mortgage!

This year will be our third visit to California.

Places to visit that we have been bearing in mind we only stayed in Anaheim and travelled to places from there are, Anaheim, Santa Monica, San Diego and Las Vegas.

We are staying in the Sheraton Anaheim and have read alot of good reviews but I will let you know what's like when we have come back.

We are going for our first visit in October and we can't wait either. We're flying into San Francisco and driving straight out to Yosemite, then Las Vegas, Lake Powell, Grand Canyon, Kingman, Palm Springs, Buena Park, Valencia, Santa Barbara, Pismo Beach, Monterey and finishing off in San Francisco... phew I'm tired thinking about it! We're visiting for 3 weeks and there's a lot of travelling involved, but we want to visit as many places as possible.

Take a look at my pre-trip report for everything that we have planned. Also put the cities/towns that you are interested in visiting into tripadvisor, then you can look up the attractions in each place. I would advise looking up hotels on tripadvisor aswell to get an idea of prices and popularity. Have fun planning.

Hi,

Looked at a couple of sites I used before we went to California.

As I mentioned before we went on a sailing ship on a evening cruise in San Diego. The link for this is :nextlevelsailing/ (look at cruise route and book a cruise for details)

We also went to a murder mystery dinner in San Diego which was a good laugh (a tip for this tho is if you want to 'get' some jokes make sure you are up to date with America popular culture and the topical stories)
mysterycafe/main.html

The following link is one to a load of events in LA - concerts, film premieres, ceremonies for the awarding of 'Stars' on the Walk of Fame, celebrity sporting events and miscellaneous others. The linkie is seeing-stars/calendar/index.shtml

I hope this is of interest

Thanks Mandy. I like the idea of staying in the Sheraton so it'd be great to hear what you think of it.

Flying in to LA, then going to San Diego, Las Vegas, Yosemite, Monterey and finishing off in, and flying out of, San Francisco, is a pretty standard trip over 3 weeks.

It gives you a few days in each place so the driving is broken up.
