California 2010

Thinking of booking one of Virgin's fly tours to California next year taking in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles.

Has anyone done a trip like this?

Would it be suitable for a 9.5 year old boy?

Hi we did the virgin tour you mention a few years back San Fran, then Vegas then LA we found it to be truly great. Im sure youre son would like Alcatraz for example and Vegas and LA too (We stayed at the Sheraton in Anaheim so we could go to Disneyland when we were on the LA leg)

If youve got any more questions ask away or pm

Thanks Holly!

We were also thinking of The Sheraton in Anaheim so that we could get our disney fix.

Is a hire car essential on this trip?

Bit nervous as we've never been to this neck of the woods before.

From what I remember we went for the superior hotel choices ie Holiday Inn (cant remember if it was express or not) Luxor and the Sheraton. We had no problems with internal flights and found everything to run smoothly cant help about needing a hire car because none of us drive so we did our own arranging bus tour in San Fran and in Las Vegas we used the buses and then in Anaheim booked our tour round LA.

Its a really good way to see three places.

Hope this helps.

Yes - thanks Holly.

Good to know that car hire isn't essential.

Can't book this until July as Virgin haven't released the holidays yet - getting excited already and we haven't done this year yet.

We did something similar with virgin last year but did not like the hotels so did it as a bespoke holiday and messed around with the hotel choices and flights till we got a price we liked, still got virgin service but it felt more like we wanted it.

We did san fran - sheraton fishermans wharf - great hotel near all the excitement of fishermans wharf for 5 days

then Los Angeles Beverly hilton for 7 days.

Hi!

Did California Dec and Jan this year. Los Angeles and San Fran. We are looking to book California again this xmas along with a few days maybe in New York on the way over.

Plenty of choice for hotels depending on what you are looking for.

As for a 9.5 year old... my oldest has just turned 9 and has been to the US 5 times. He's been great from the start of his first trip at the age of 2. They'll be fine!

Lindsey it worked out cheaper cos we messed around witht eh number of days it worked out cheaper to stay in Los angeles for 7 and San fran for 5, The hotels on the set holidays were not what we really wanted but by looking at 2 or 3 centre and choosing the same resort area meant that we got more what we wanted, did not drive between SF and LA but used Viring America flightd for $49 each on brand new planes as they use SF as one of there main bases you could use them to get to NYC and LA and LV hope that helps
