I found booking direct with hotel with free cancellation was slightly cheaper than booking.com etc... For some dates.

hotels.com usually does include tax but none of them will include resort fee. It's booking.com that omits tax.

We booked Caesar's Palace with Booking.com, free cancellation, but had one night deposit taken by the hotel, so look out for that as Well!

Also check Virgin- hotel only. We stayed at Hyatt Orange County last time in a kids suite which was same price as ordinary room and we got free parking-unfortunately out of budget for this year as we loved it. For next year I've booked Sheraton Anaheim £564 for 4 nights with free parking, same on Expedia was £860 no free parking. I mainly use expedia or hotels.com through quidco and only choose with free cancellation in case the dollar improves and we see better rates nearer the time.

Also used vrbo for MGM signature last time after someone recommended the owner to me from the dibb. Didn't have to pay for kids or any resort fees.

same here, booked the aria on booking.com with free cancellation and they took the first night already... makes it slightly easier to pay the rest when we get there thought I suppose but it makes me wonder whether they'd refund that if we cancelled x

it does say you get a full refund upto 3 days before arrival but how long it'd take to be refunded back is debatable!

A couple of years ago I booked a hotel where they took the 1st night I then decided to cancel as found a much better deal, they refunded the money but I was about £10 out of pocket due to the exchange rate and currency change.

We are 11 nights into our west coast trip with 7 hotels in total, we booked them all through hotels.com with free cancellation. Cancelled all my booking.com ones as they didn't include tax. Also wanted to pay upfront as booked most of them before the rate drop. It helped me plan the finances better. Would defiantly do the same again.
