Cruising from Fort Lauderdale

Considering a cruise from Fort Lauderdale next year, and would have 4 nights first somewhere nearby? Anyone got any suggestions of where to stay and places we can visit from there easily? We have only been to Orlando before dont know this area at all. We would want a pool, and would be 4 adults. Any tips on flights or anything would be really appreciated. Thanks!

We’ve cruised out of Port Everglades several times and it’s a really easy port to get to/from. We fly in to FLL or MIA about three days before and rent a car. Driving in FL tends to be quieter than Miami. Last November we stayed at the Nobleton Hotel, an old style 50’s hotel with pool but beautifully maintained and immaculately clean. We would definitely stay there again. We drop the car off at one of the port rental locations and use their free shuttle to the ship. We find Dollar to be very convenient and efficient.
Fort Lauderdale is a lovely wind down before starting a cruise.

Yes, it’s an easy drive to Everglades NP as is Ocean Drive in Miami. In FL the area around Las Olas Blvd is pleasant with a nice walkway along the Stranahan River. From there (close to the Cheesecake Factory) you can take a pleasure boat along the waterways to see the sights and houses of the rich and famous. There is also a really good water taxi around the city. There is also Sawgrass Mills Mall for epic retail therapy.

We are using our 3 nts before cruise from Miami to stay in the Keys and do some snorkelling / beaches / visit Key West.

we stayed in the Westin Beach hotel in Fort Lauderdale before one of our cruises. Lovely hotel opposite the beach

At the moment there are only flights available to Miami, not Fort Lauderdale, anyone flown straight into FLL and who with please? Also, is it a long transfer from Miami airport to Fort Lauderdale?

We stayed at the Lago mar in Fort Lauderdale we saw cruise ships pass close by and loved it. We flew back from Miami it wasn't far to the airport but the sat nav sent us the wrong way and we ended up in a very scary area.

I don’t know if there are direct flights to FLL from London, we fly from Manchester where there are only indirect flights. I think Norwegian used to do a direct flight from Gatwick - not sure if it still runs.
The drive from MIA to FLL is 30 miles, about 45 mins.
