Money - how do you take yours?

I am really a visual person and like to have money on my person so that I can actually see what I am spending.

My question is how much actual cash are you allowed on your person when entering the USA? I obviously wont take all cash as its not sensible, but I would like to take a considerable amount as cash

We always use cash over there as well and I'm sure there's an amount that may cause issues at immigration - although we are rarely asked that question.

But you should really be aware of the maximum limitations imposed by your travel insurance.

Why not just take maybe $1,000 and top up at ATMs at the likes of Wawa gas stations who don't charge for withdrawals. That's what we do.

You can take as much cash as you want...but if you take over $10,000 you have to declare it. 😎

great idea! I just like to actually see what I have, I will hopefully be organised enough and have an envelope for each day, and rollover what we don't spend

Very similar to what we do. As a couple we know by experience that our eating out budget (always in a villa never stayed on site) averages around $80-$90 day for breakfast and dinner. We take $100 out every day and the rest stays in the safe. Anything left goes into a kitty envelope and after a few days there's enough to have a gas fill up or small supermarket shop.

When we get low we call at Wawa (we pass the same one maybe four times a day) and get usually $600 out and sometimes we get gas.

The customs forms used to ask about currency but I can't remember the amount. We haven't had a form for maybe the last three trips. The automated kiosks used to ask the same question but they disappeared from MCO sometime between Apr 2018 and Nov 2018.

So I guess as others have said there is a legal maximum which you should be aware of as the officer may well ask.
