Thanks for the tip - I hadn't looked at tolls but it may well be worth getting.

Alas, we will miss the State Fair - the joys of being tied to school holidays!

Planning continues - all hotels are booked except for Austin. The hotel we want doesn't start taking August bookings until 1st May, so we are hanging on. I keep checking prices and may well book something cancellable just in case but it's darned expensive in Austin!

Holiday spreadsheet is in full swing, featuring dates, mileage, hotel details etc. The "to do" spreadsheet is also getting filled in. The next thing to book is baseball tickets - we are waiting for single games to go on sale which should be any time now.

Also need to learn the Texas Two-Step!

Baseball tickets are booked! We are going to see the Texas Rangers take on the Houston Astros - a night game at the Globe Life Park in Arlington. As a bonus, it is $1 hotdog night, so the meat-eaters can fill our boots. Unfortunately, the vegetarian will not be able to partake. There is also an opportunity for Evan to get some autographs if he wants, as there is an autograph special for the under-13s. Alas, the vegetarian is too old for that. Oops!

We've also just booked tickets for the Houston Astros v the LA Dodgers at the Minute Maid Park - Sunday afternoon game. No cheapy hotdogs this time.

Really looking forward to the games. We enjoyed the baseball so much last time that another couple of games was definitely on the cards. We know the words to "Take me out to the ball game" and are looking forward to singing "Deep in the Heart of Texas" at Houston and stomping along to "Cotton-Eyed Joe" at Arlington!

Hey!

Can't help much but me and OH went to Houston about 6 years ago and stayed in a lovely boutique hotel called Hotel Magnolia. It was within walking distance of Minute Maid Stadium and Toyota Centre so we saw basketball and baseball whilst we were there.

We didn't hire a car so we caught the bus to Johnson Space Centre and I remember that went smoothly. Johnson Space Centre was a great place to visit, seemed much more authentic than Kennedy.

Also went to Houston Zoo and Sea Life Centre, there's a Hard Rock Cafe (obligatory glass) within walking distance of The Magnolia and there's a big, more commercial area close by for shops/Cheesecake Factory etc that we didn't get chance to go to.

Happy planning!

We just booked our Austin Hotel last night - you are right - very expensive! We have just gone with Holiday Express and Suites in the end... Got a not bad price! Sounds like your planning is in full swing

Thanks for the tips! I'm really looking forward to the Space Centre - we never made it to Kennedy so have nothing to compare it to. I suspect we will spend far too much time saying "Houston, we have a problem" once we get there!

Did you go elsewhere in Texas?

Not long to go for you!
