what if they were serving someone else ?

surely only any real benefit in tipping if they arent serving anyone anyway... you save a few seconds as your drink is being poured as you head to the bar... is that 'better'...

We have only done AI once a few years ago in Tunisia.

The first night we gave the bar waiter a few Dinars and did so every other night he was on (I think it worked out about £3 for the week) and every time we sat down he would bring us out our drinks and kept them topped up all night. Now I don't know if this was standard service or a little extra, but we really did appreciate his service.

We also gave the pool waiter a tip the first time and the next day we went to the pool I went back to the room to get something and our drinks just magically turned up while I was gone. He also helped us sort out some sunbeds the next day. Again I can't say whether this was standard or preferential service, but for a few bob I think I'm prepared to take the hit.

In poorer countries especially what is a few bob to us can be a big difference in someones life. Some people on here criticising others for tipping on AI astound me.
