Cheekydeeky or Mr Tom advice of monoblock sand depth please
Hello again,
Sorry another question. Is 100mm of sand too much for laying the monoblocks on? We originally said we wanted 50mm to prevent sinkage but came home tonight and it’s double that amount at the top end of the drive. We have 3 cars plus a LWB VW transporter sitting on it. Any help is appreciated. Cheers Fluff |

Far too much!
My Mate is a full time drive layer and put my normal sized one in 20+ years ago. Then he ripped up the top half and made it 3 times bigger 3 years ago. The original was on maybe 15 to 20mm of sand but he no longer uses that and instead uses road dust. Far better and forms a harder base so he said. I rarely see sand being used now. 100mm is a massive amount and I wouldn't accept it. This will help Thickness of Pavers = T v Depth of screed = D (mm) T D 32 25-27 35 28-30 40 32-35 45 37-39 50 41-43 60 51-53 65 55-57 80 70-72 Edit. A whacker plate will drive them down 5 to 10mm

Ha ha. Not my trade but I spent so long working with other trades you miss nothing.
All my Mates are still working and I tend to muck in with them if they are at my house. That way I keep up to date with new Regs and current trends. I found the thickness formula online so I can't claim credit for that! However I'm struggling to find a good spread to do my dining room new ceiling in January. Hard to find a good one who 'polishes' the skim well.

Thanks Mr Tom, I knew you would know something about this. I’m fuming. They were supposed to lay another 4t type one but instead built up with sand. They got about 3 cars size space of brick laid from the pavement up towards the garage before we got home so will need to take some of that back off.
Even worse is a section needs built up with type 1 still by about 80mm, so no idea how they will get that in because no truck is coming on my new drive with 4t of type 1 in the back. We were quite clear on the spec, so no idea why they have done this. Probably trying to get done before the weekend. Anyway, thank you again for your help. 👍 |
