Would the increasing number of wildfires put you off an autummn visit?

We are planning a late October road trip with our two sons starting in San Fransisco and driving the coastal route down to San Diego next year. For work and school reasons and because we love the Halloween theme, late October works brilliant for us but I've really beeen put off by the wildfires and the increasing numbers and severity of them this year and last. The papers are blaming global warming for the record number of fires and the destruction and awful death tolls they are causing in their wake. It looks pretty terrifying on the news reports and with the close proximity to San Fran and L.A the air quality presumably would also be affected.
For all those who have been during wildfire season before, would this be enough of a concern to make you reconsider? On other forums locals seem to be quite calm about them. Any opinions appreciated, thank you.

Its something you need to factor in, similarly to people not going to Orlando at certain times because of the hurricane risk
My assumption is that locals won't be too concerned due to
a) because they're used to it
b) theyre in one spot, not moving around, if there's a fire between their house and a destination they don't need to go, on a booked trip you've paid for your holiday to include these places and could be disappointed
c)there isn't anything they can do about it

In saying this, we took the risk and went mid September this year and were lucky, we only saw small fires in Yosemite, but it was noted that this year had been quiet until that point, I did keep checking a fire tracker website before leaving and nothing was coming close to our destinations so maybe look on something like that and if they're frequently near places you want to visit or travel through choose another time of year

no wouldn't put us off. We had a few around us at Stevenson ranch a few weeks ago, was fun driving down the I5 watching the helicopters dumping water and flying to the reservoir to fill back up. It was just amazing watching them, but not good they were having to do it. We had one night when the winds got up and you could smell the fire and the smoke covering the I5 but the next day all was good, the firefighters had done a great job overnight.

Wouldn't be of any concern at all. It's easy to move around and issues.

Many of the recent fires have been caused by the ageing power grid and not global warming at all. The large areas of power cuts due to this old system would cause more disruption than any fires to a tourist.

We had some fires on PCH the other year which closed Big Sur. Just one of those things and moved around it.

More chance of a hurricane majorly affecting your holiday in Florida than fires in California just due to the scale.

No more than I would be put off by crime in LA, aggressive beggars inSF, dangerous animals in the countryside and Hookers in Las Vegas

Just back from LA on Monday and there were lots of wild fires being reported while we were there. We didn’t experience any problems while we were there (stayed in Anaheim, Burbank and Manhattan Beach). Only once smelt any smoke in the air and that was not particularly noticeable so wouldn’t be put off going at this time of year again.

We were lucky and had good weather so it’s a bit of a shock to the system coming home to temperatures in single figures!
