Kruger area safari lodges?
Hi
I know a lot of you have been to South Africa. We have planned a 3 week itinerary which will end in Kruger and we are about to book our accommodation. The private concession lodges are so expensive and I am tying myself in knots trying to choose the right one... So - any experience of Hamiltons tented in Mluwati concession? Or Arathusa or Nkhoro in Sabi Sands? Many thanks |

I stayed at Hippo Hollow in Kruger a few years ago, it was a great base for doing safaris. Not sure if it’s still there or been renamed though! We booked it through Virgin Holidays and did Cape Town and Mauritius too!

Does it have to be a private lodge ? You could hire a car and stay in the park in Sanparks accommodation for a fraction of the cost. We've done self drive and lodge, the lodge ( in Kwazulu natal) was very nice , but we much preferred driving ourselves, stopping when we wanted , going where we wanted. In Kruger itself you'll have no problem spotting animals, and if you want a break from driving or a guide you can book drives with Sanparks.

I second the Sanparks accommodation and self drive. We had a Renault Megane, so easy to drive. Some of the accommodation is fab , and way cheaper than the private ones. Would love to go back !

We will also self drive for 1 day and night, but as it’s our first time we wanted to indulge in a private lodge. DH is a keen photographer and it will be nice for him to concentrate just on photos 😀😀

I would personally look at a couple of nights in the SAN parks Satara camp, then move onto to a private lodge at the end. I have stayed at Imbali game lodge and a couple of others in the area, with the current exchange rate you will be hard pressed to bag a lower cost escpecially as an overseas tourist

I think that we are going to go with Nkorho for 2 nights (£1100 for 2 of us for two nights all inc) in Sabi Sands and one night in SAN accommodation to self drive.😀
