A cold New York with a teenage boy
We’re going over Xmas/ New year. I’m thinking of clothing and thermals BUT my DS wears tight skinny jeans ( and won’t wear any other style) these will be too skinny for thermals underneath any suggestions?
He’s 17. Thanks

Two of my sons who work out side in all weathers wear Nike thermal base layer running gear / tights and they fit like a second skin
Maybe they would work |

I agree OP. Don’t think thermals would fit under tight skinny jeans. Especially if they are as tight as my son wears them. Maybe a thermal layer just under the top? And lots of layers. How cold does it get?

I would definitely get him some base layer type tights. And thermal socks to cover the gap at the bottom. We went for thanksgiving about 15 Years ago and I still remember it as the coldest I've ever been in my life. I think I had 7 layers in my top half!

We went for Christmas 3 years ago my sons were 17 and 15. We were lucky with the weather and even walked around Central Park on Christmas Day in jeans and Christmas jumpers. Layer the top half and timberland type boots and thermal socks will see him through. Have an amazing time.

We also had base layers. At that age they don’t feel the cold the same but I would still say he will need them. We went in February and it was not actually very cold at all.
We also took little hand warmers, you can buy them in home bargains, pound shop type places. Just slip them inside your gloves and the warmth lasts for ages. I would also say a pair of shoes with good grips is essential. Hope you both enjoy your trip to New York. We thought it was fabulous and will definitely return. Edited at 08:21 AM. |

I have been a few times that time of year, never needed any thermals, it wouldn’t occur to me that I might. I wouldn’t do anything now but if he does find it too cold get something there.
