Anyone heard of this? Uber driver? Dodgey!
My son just had an Uber delivery. I was upstairs and I hear him talking at the door and shout and ask what’s going on. The Uber driver is asking him for a £10 tip it sounds like. I go down and ask him what’s going on and my son says I have to give him a ten pound tip. I go down and say you don’t gave to give ANY tip to which the driver is saying he will give him the £10 and he wants him to give a £10 tip! Odd! He starts trying to explain but I just said no!
Anyone had this? |

I think its to do with a tip matching promotion going on at the moment,
uber/en-GB/blog/intr...-tip-matching/ so your uber driver was trying it on and asking for £10 so he can get a £10 match (the most it can be matched) |

Uber are matching tips to their drivers for a short period
So if you tip 5 Uber will match it Bit cheeky though |

I’ve had a few drivers be cheeky and say “make sure to tip” but not ask for a specific amount!

Do you tip them on the app? We don’t have them round here.

Hi
Bit odd, never used a uber delivery if you tip must it be via your card or can you hand cash? just wondering was he meaning for your son to say he gave a £10 tip so that it would be matched but not actually doing it if you know what I mean but basically so he could earn an extra £10 from the company?

The way I read it, the Uber driver was asking if he give them a £10 note, so Elle's son wasn't out of pocket, would they then tip him £10 via the app, the company would match by giving the driver a further £10.

It just “felt” dodgey. I didn’t know about the Uber match thing and he wasn’t explaining it very well. I come downstairs and the man is practically in my house telling my son he needs to give him a ten pound tip. I said you don’t need to give ANY tip so he said I give you ten pounds which without the explanation seemed really odd! So I just said no we tipped via the app. We go inside and my daughter who is doing accounting says “classic money laundering” 😂, I think is he trying to get rid of fake notes?
With the explanation of the matching obviously now it makes sense but at the time was odd. We have never had them ask for a tip usually to rate them. |
