Some people are just horrible.

Out doing some Xmas shopping with ds21 in town. We had just had lunch and were entering the shopping mall which has a wide entrance. This guy aged about 40 came barging quite hard into ds and stood on his feet, there were no other people in the area so plenty space, ds said in a normal tone no worries mate and we kept walking but this man was shouting at us from the bottom of the escalator and I could see out the corner of my eye he was starting to come up behind us but ds didn’t notice so I kept him walking into the nearest store when the guy started squaring up to ds who quite rightly and calmly said you barged me and stood on my feet man (ds is somewhat of a hippy both in dress and speech) which the guy started repeating the word man. I just told him to grow up and he went storming out the store. I think if we hadn’t been in the store he would of hit my son. It was a really unpleasant encounter and I think ruined the time we were having. I could think of a lot of things to say to him now but why do some people have to be so aggressive.

What a horrible experience for you both! Why can’t people be nice? ... as you say you were just going about your business. Unfortunately some people go looking for confrontation...
Hope you both are ok!

Hmmm I'd guess he was either drunk or not quite well mentally.
Your son sounds lovely by the way.

Unfortunately some people are just horrible and rude they also have the attitude that they can do exactly as they like and just barge into people as and when they please.
Glad you and your son are ok but can understand you being upset and it spoiling your day.

He sounds a bit unstable! He’s lucky your son was calm. One day he will pick on someone who lashes out!

You may well be right, or drugs.
From the circumstances described it sounds like a vast over reaction from this man to a scenario of his own making.

I think in city / town centres there are more people about who have serious mental health or substance abuse issues than we might expect. My 20 year old, five foot two daughter is studying history in London . She has a part time job as a tour guide. She was waiting for late comers to the group, thought a couple approaching might be them and tentatively smiled. The female of the pair seemed to become enraged at this and began screaming obscenities at my daughter As the woman got closer it was apparent that she had skin / dentition issues often associated with very serious drug use . Her male companion eventually had to physically restrain her from accessing my daughter. I'm still frightened / furious and I wasn't there ! So I can only imagine how you must feel.I'm sorry your outing was spoiled and hope it won't put you off in future.
