Should we drive through the monkey enclosure? Is it really that risky?

I work at Longleat. It’s fun when you watch other cars get picked on! Kids normally think it’s hilarious which is part of the fun! A lot of cars get no damage at all. You can see the monkeys from the bottom of the giraffe enclosure if you didn’t want to go through.

Thank you! What a great place to work.

We are coming tomorrow actually - has it been very busy, enough to get stuck in the enclosure or would we keep on moving?

Would you say most cars get through fine?

Longleat is our favourite place to visit in the U.K. It’s a fabulous and good value day out. Get there for opening if you can. The majority of time you can drive strategically to avoid the monkeys or they will climb over your car and do no damage. However, they are mischievous and if they find a loose bit of rubber, windscreen wiper, aerial, anything really they will rip and steal it. It is worth checking your car before you go. I have lost an aerial and a parking sensor. You will have a wonderful time. Drive slowly and enjoy your visit.

Thank you - feeling we should do it! Without the aerial in! Good advice on checking the car 🤣

I last went to Windsor safari park as a child and have fond memories of that, so I'm looking forward to this!

We were there a few years ago and didn’t risk taking our car through the enclosure but got the bus instead. We really enjoyed it and the guide was very knowledgable which made it informative as well as entertaining! We did witness a car having its number plate removed!

I remember the monkey enclosure well! DD filled car up with wrong petrol evening before we drove down so managed to borrow a car. Monkeys had a wonderful time chewing washer jets and wiper blades. Fights broke out between them trying to get at the best access and then joined by all their other pals to investigate.
When we emerged DD said at least it wasn’t his car...

Ours was fine - we always go through. Usually on the way home from the Centre Parcs next door - so there are lots of juicy pine/spruce needles down by the top of the bonnet (parking is under the trees at CP)- loads of cheeky monkeys get their hands right in there to pluck them out for a tasty treat!

Never had any damage. Did see a big 4x4 have its spare wheel cover on the back stolen away as a prize...

We haven’t been to Longleat for years but remember going many years ago.

We had an older car at the time so took the risk but the little blighters pealed the trim of the roof!

It’s great reading all your stories about Longleat, I don’t think I’ve ever been! We are booked to go on a VIP safari soon in lieu of our trip to Disney which has of course been cancelled... what should we expect? Really looking forward to it 👏👏
