theyve always told me that you can only book a companion flight with a full price cash ticket, never worked out for us.

They tried to tell me that on the text yesterday but I double checked on their website and it's not the case. Booked a companion along with my miles ticket last night. Wouldn't advise using the text service based on my experience yesterday. They were great on the phone though.

I've had very mixed experiences with Virgin flying club staff with it usually ending up having to call back and speak to an other advisor. Although I have found the text and chat service better.

That was true with the old MBNA card, not with the new one. It’s in the terms and conditions as it’s based on your flying club level.
Red members can use it on economy flights.
Silver on economy or premium.
Gold on economy, premium or upper.

For September I wouldn’t bother with economy redemptions as the taxes are about £230 but you’ll get cash tickets for £350-400 easily enough.
Might be useful in premium which you’ll have enough for. The taxes are around £430 plus 45k miles each. To book you’ll have to call as you’re using miles from 2 accounts. Whoever’s booking needs permission to use the miles on the others account. So you’ll both need to be on the call. You only have to do that once.

Our DD could not believe I had managed it get all 7 seats. Disney was booked 30 minutes later happy DD and very happy 2 Granddaughters. They sent confirmation about 2 minute later via email and the flights were already on there system so could book the seats straightaway.
Hi...I assume you waited until both your outbound and return flights were released before you started?

Does anyone know what time Virgin release the miles flights each day?

Last time I booked it was 3am. I tracked the times for a few weeks before and set my alarm. Sounds mad but for August they can go quick. They do release more but I couldn't deal with the stress of waiting! 😬
