Eating out with Kids

Afternoon all,

My first question of probably thousands on this site in prep for our trip next year!

Is there an age restriction on kids meals? Both of ours are going to be 12 when we go. I recall adult portion sizes being massive so would be looking at kids meals for them

Ta,

Most class 10 and above as adult. I have to be honest I'm not sure about the actual rules but I don't think most places would have an issue with someone older ordering from the child menu. Buffets and set price meals you'd have to pay adult prices.

As above - buffets and meals served "family style" (where there is a fixed price per head), you will have to pay the adult price. Otherwise, you can order a kids meal for them if that's what you want to do. Are you going to be on any Disney dining plan?

I am an adult and have a small appetite to have ordered kids meals if there is something that appeals to me. The problem with kids meals is that they are often limited to "kids" food-chicken tender.nuggets. mac and cheese, burgers and hot dogs.

I agree children’s meals are not very inspiring. Pizzas, nuggets and everything seems to involve broccoli!
You may find your children have more choice and nicer food sharing an adult meal. You can ask for it to be served on separate plates in the kitchen so the children feel they have their own meal.

My dd was on the adult plan last time we went, and ate off the kids menu at every restaurant other than the buffets. Both my kids are on the adult plan this year and I've no doubt they will eat off the kids menu again, they have good appetites but the adult portions are still too big for them. No one has a problem with it last time.

We aren’t doing Disney (that is a bone of contention though! ) and are staying off site so would be using local places to eat

Oh, well in that case it won’t be a problem. As someone else suggested you could buy an adult meal and split it or order an appetiser as a main if they wanted something other than the standard “kids food”.
Most places are really accommodating!

I have often ordered a child meal, I also found that my daughter could order a child sized adult meal if she fancied something off the adult menu eg Prawns, they are very accommodating if asked
