DH has a heart attack in March this year and was taken to the Northern General in Sheffield the front line staff were amazing and not only saved his life treated him so nicely afterwards.

He was discharged to Rotherham hospital the same night and was told he had to stay in for 5 nights.

When they transferred DH they had a transfer sheet which went missing when he was on the ward 😳

They released DH the 15th March 2 days after, with half the dosage of tablets he had been prescribed, statins he should have had 80mg and he was prescribed half, this happened with all his medication 😡

Then one of the nurses on the ward had the same surname as DH and she had a chat with him, to see if they were related. Turns out they are! DH is estranged from his parents and hasn’t been in contact with them for 4 years nearly. This nurse relative told someone in the family that DH had had a heart attack and she had seen him in hospital. Fast forward 5 weeks after the heart attack and DH’s father rang him and was abusing DH for not telling them that he had suffered a heart attack. When DH asked who had told them it was this relative on the ward 😡 definitely breaking GDPR!
😡😡 DH was so very angry he wanted to take things further but I asked him to leave it for his health’s sake, he had gone through a massive heart attack and didn’t need any further stress!

So I am afraid it’s not just the administration the front line staff can be incompetent too

I have a virtual same scenario as yours regarding the NHS; still waiting since July for a date for an op (sorry called a 'procedure' now) actually had 3 appointments that were supposed to be for a needle biopsy but on two occasions I turned up to be asked by the consultant why was I there, said for needle biopsy, not here as ENT didnt do the needle biopsy here, rebook! 3rd time I rang first the 2 days before to confirm it was in fact for the needle biopsy in the right department NOT ENT, to be told yes this Friday. Friday morning I rang 'just in case' to be told no your not expected here just a mo while we check, ah yes your due here on Monday! My op should have been done & sorted by now, how much time, money & valuable consultants appointments are wasted this way!
We are worse than a 3rd world country & all this happening at the QMC Teaching hospital !

Wow I'd be with your DH on this one . Whilst sheets can go missing , that was flagrant abuse of patient confidentiality and caused your husband stress at a time he certainly didn't need it. I'd be raising that with PALs if o lay to make sure she did not do it again to someone else who might not have coped as well as your husband did.

Tax credits at one point sent me a refund of a couple of thousand , then asked for it back a year later, then when I queried it said no I didn't owe it then two years later wrote to inform me I did owe it after all. Eventually I found someone who could work out what was going on (I had two years I'd worked missing the employment dates) and I got a refund of what I'd "paid back" but it was awful. I hate to think if I'd been unemployed by then what I'd have done as a single parent at the time.

You need and must formally complain about this. It is a breach of patient confidentiality and the nurse needs to be and will be disciplined for what they have done. This is now what I do for a living having been a nurse for over 30 years. There will be no stress on your husband. All he needs to do is to complain either by telephone or in writing and give the details as you have listed here. Indeed you can do this on his behalf. That will be an end to what you have to do. You will not hear back what happens to the member of staff as that would be a breach of their confidentiality but believe me it is taken seriously, will not be swept under the carpet. People have been sacked, charged by the police and struck off for doing this.

Thank you! I have put in a formal complaint.
Unfortunately DH suffered a very severe allergic reaction in Sunday and to cut a very long story short we ended up in A&E after his throat swelled and he also had a reaction to the adrenaline 😕
I was talking to one of the nurses and mentioned what had happened in March with DH and seeing the relative and What happened next, the nurse actually logged it for us with PALS.

We are now waiting for tests to see what my poor DH is allergic to, he is having a rubbish year!

Anyway thanks for posting this we wouldn’t have done anything normally and would have left it.
