I was very young but I remember it on the news and the terrible feeling everyone had.

My husband was telling me last night he works with someone who was one of the children there who escaped with their lives.
I guess the subject came us due to the anniversay.

Rest in Peace little ones, teachers and all xx
I was at primary school in London and it's the first news I really remember - a very sad day.
Thoughts are also with the families and friends of all affected xx

Yes I remember the horror of that day. I was 10 and sat with my parents watching the BBC. So sad.

I was only a year old so can’t remember it, but as a child growing up nearby I was very aware of the terrible tragedy. My BiL was a safety officer with the coal board (in a neighbouring valley) and he went to help dig and he recovered many of the bodies. He never spoke about this until a couple of years ago when he opened up and told us about the terrible things he saw and it still made him cry. He now has Parkinson’s and dementia and has reoccurring nightmares about the sights he saw whilst at Aberfan.

I was 9 years old when it happened. I remember my mum crying at the sink. It was the first ever news story I really listened to. May they all rest in peace.

What a sad story. It brings it home that all these tragedies have a lasting effect on not just the families involved but all those around.

The main memory I have, like taylaboo, is my mother crying.

This was before I was born, but I’ve known about it since I was a child. Such a terrible tragedy, you cannot help but to feel saddened, even if it was before you were born. RIP all those who lost their lives x

I wasn’t born when it happened but I remember my Dad telling me about driving home and hearing the news in the radio and having to pull over as he was crying too much to drive.

There was a documentary about it either last year or the year before, talking to children who had survived. One quote really stayed with me when one of them said that in the days and months afterwards, he didn’t go out to play because there was nobody to play with. Really brings home the impact on the place.
