When I was very young after watching an event I told my mum 'I want to be one of those when I grow up'.
'One of those' was a Morris Dancer. Well I don't have a beard, wear bells or a top hat. Older and wiser I wanted to be a pilot but my eyesight was not good enough (close vision) and don't look good in Aviators. So into IT it was, have been interested since I was 10, has been my only job. I still enjoy it, it doesn't feel like 'work' most of the time. |

Well, first of all I wanted to be a ballet dancer. But I'm a bit too "fluffy" for that. Next career choice was astronaut - but I'm frightened of heights and not a big fan of flying, in case I fall randomly out of the sky. Okay, pirate then? Oh, I'm seasick.
At 16 my desire to be an actress was strong, and my lovely drama teacher at school encouraged me to audition for a drama school he had contacts in, based in Stratford upon Avon. My then-boyfriend, (who moved onto being my ex-husband, eventually!), talked me out of it as he didn't want me to be miles away from him or active in the acting world as he was convinced it was all affairs and infidelity, and sadly I listened to him. I finally decided I liked typing and was good at English so wanted to be a secretary. I'm now PA to the CEO of a big law firm, that'll do. Although my hankering after being a writer is still strong, and thanks to self-publishing I now have 4 trip report books published and am well on the way to my first novel!

I'm currently a careers advisor in a handful of secondary schools but I'm not sure if this is something I want to continue in. I think I picked it as I don't know what I want to do for a career so why not help others figure it out!
I have a degree in criminology and always consider joining the Police's fast track detective course! When I was younger I always wanted to be a vet or a lawyer

I loved History, Egyptology and Travel, My last years of school were ruined by a terrifying maths teacher and an inept History teacher ( she lost my whole years work) and I struggled to write it all out again , hence I failed the subject I loved most through stress of trying to get it done..Made worse by her 'finding ' my folder after my exam.
I went into Hospitality and now work remotely for a large organisation, I dont really enjoy it as I am a people person and most of the teams are very distant and we don't have many 'virtual' meetings Just working to finish off the mortgage now, I would love to work outdoors, no matter what the weather ! |

I worked all my life in a bank. Didn't progress very far although I had the opportunity before I went part time when I had my son. When I joined in 1972 women weren't given the promotion chance of men. A different world then. I enjoyed most of my time though and made some lifelong friends.
Mind you as a child I wanted to be an astronaut! Think I watched a lot of Star Trek... |

Yes! I am a primary school teacher, turned stay at home mummy. I wanted to be a primary school teacher from when I was in primary school myself and have worked with children my entire adult life. Having said that, I think I prefer being home with my own children! I plan to go back to teaching at some point though.

I always new I wanted to work with children at school I wanted to be a nursery nurse but did better in my o levels than anticipated so went off to 6 form with a view to proceed to teacher training college.
Unfortunately I didn't enjoy 6th form always felt like I didn't fit in so left to work in the civil service Whilst working there I was chatting with a colleague much older than me about nursing and how I'd love to be a nurse but didn't think I would be able to cope with things like blood and other bodily fluids she laughed and said if you don't give it a try you'll never know So with her encouragement I applied for nursing and 44 years later I've never looked back I spent 33 years of my career in children's nursing which was the most rewarding work I've ever done. I work part time now but not with children I still have a lot of job satisfaction have achieved more than I ever hoped to do and I'm not quite ready to fully retire yet. I have been so fortunate and have never regretted my decision to become a nurse |
