Car damage being denied
Hi, I'm after a bit of advice please. DD has had her car scratched by someone but did not see them do it. She only suspects them as paint from her car was on theirs. She took photos and left them a note asking them to contact her to discuss. Paint has now washed away from their car, but she has photos proving the paint and fresh scratch with her paint on their car. They are saying they don't think they did it and the scratch is minor so not worth bothering with. DD has had a quote for the work and they are only offering less than a quarter as a 'goodwill gesture' but are saying they don't think it's them. Has anyone any advice please as I have never been in this situation before Her Dad is saying if they don't admit it, there is nothing we can do. Thanks

I really don't think there's anything you could do. I'd take the good will gesture and move on

Thanks. As a parent, I feel so angry and just wanted to know if there is anything more I could/should do in this situation. They live in the area, but I didn't know they existed until this. What annoys me is her having to fork out for damage that they caused. If I didn't believe I did something, I wouldn't be offering anything as that's admitting guilt.

Absolutely agree that no sane person would offer a penny if they weren't responsible. I used to get myself worked up with such situations but it achieved nothing (other than stress/anxiety to me).
Sadly we've all had damage done to our cars and the culprits have driven off (some accidental and other damage like scratches done on purpose). In the same situation I would get the scratches repaired asap as the longer I looked at it the more it would annoy me. |

Thanks. I think it was the fact that he was being rather arrogant saying he didn't believe he was at fault and the scratches would have appeared anyway at some stage. It was 10.00 before she sent him a quote and now 60.00. I'll tell her to just draw a line under it and just put it down to experience if there is nothing more she can do. Thanks.

They know they did it and ha e basically admitted it . I would tell them you are taking the photos to the police.

Unfortunately I would put it down to experience and maybe invest in a dash cam with parking function just in case it happens again.

I keep looking at them myself and was wondering about getting one for husbands Christmas present. I don’t think all of them have the parking sensor. Mind you a neighbour had theirs stolen out of the car. We can’t win can we !
Just take solace with what goes around comes around and the neighbour might have it done to them one day. Edited at 06:25 PM. |
